Simonstorp’s wooden 17th-century church

Simonstorp Church is the village’s quaint 17th-century church, popular for weddings and baptisms. During the summer, the church hosts a café run by volunteers. During the four café sessions, various artists exhibit their works, and the last hour features a summer concert by different performers.

This year, Kolmården Parish is hosting a cultural week during week 26. See the program below:

Program 2024

Sun, June 2, at 4 PM

The children’s choir Flowers presents a short Summer Concert, followed by Flowers’ baked treats. If the weather is nice, we’ll enjoy the treats outside in the sun. Warm welcome from Flowers, Malin, and Elinor.

Mon, June 24, from 11 AM to 5 PM

Annika Berlin Svensson and Simonstorp Sewing Association exhibit and talk about the church’s furnishings and textiles. Digital tour of the cemetery. Craft corner for children available. Coffee service.

Tue, June 25, from 11 AM to 5 PM

Wed, June 26, from 11 AM to 5 PM

Malin Ekstrand talks about the church’s and village’s history at 11 AM and 1 PM. The over 60-minute lecture is interspersed with musical performances by Malin and the youth duo. Old photographs are on display in the church. Digital tour of the cemetery. Craft corner for children available. From 2 PM to 4 PM, Gunilla Håkansson and Elinor Klawing organize fun children’s activities. Coffee service.

Thu, June 27, from 11 AM to 5 PM

Therese Dahl talks about historical children’s clothing and baptism traditions. Photographs are available to view. Malin Ekstrand is available at 11 AM and 2 PM to share a bit about the village’s and church’s history. Digital tour of the cemetery. Craft corner for children available. Coffee service.

Fri, June 28, from 11 AM to 5 PM

The church is open for quiet contemplation. Staff are available to talk about the church and the village. Old photographs are available to view. Digital tour of the cemetery. Coffee service.

SUMMER CAFÉ

Sun, June 30, from 11 AM to 4 PM

Summer café! Tables and chairs are set up in the sun, and homemade treats are served. Warm welcome to the church’s popular summer café.

Café concert in the church from 3 PM to 4 PM by Mimmi, Cissi, and Lukas. A concert featuring contemporary and older pop and folk songs, both on piano and guitar.

Café concert at 3 PM. With two wins in P4 Nästa, Valdemarsvik-born Louice Ottosson has made a name for herself in Östergötland’s music scene. She performs her own music mixed with known melodies from her idols.

Café concert at 3 PM – Lotta Källström and Malin Ekstrand provide an hour of summer warmth and joy. With guitar and piano, the girls sing and entertain with summer delights and personal favorites.

FALL 2024

Wed, August 28

The Sewing Association starts at 11 AM and meets every other Wednesday until December 4.

Wed, September 4, from 2 PM to 4 PM

Children’s choir grades 4-6 starts. Every Wednesday from 2 PM to 4 PM.

Wed, September 4, from 5 PM to 6:15 PM

Youth singing grades 7-9 starts. Every Wednesday from 5 PM to 6:15 PM.

Sun, October 13, from 11 AM to 4 PM

Harvest market at Skogsvallen. A collaboration between the Church, Simonstorp IF, and Simonstorp residents. Craftsmen and food producers from Östergötland and Södermanland will be present. The last half-hour features an auction with the children’s choir. The raised money goes to a charitable cause, which the choir votes on.

Sat, November 2, from 10 AM to 5 PM

The church is open for candle lighting and a moment of silence during All Saints’ Day. Music session from 3 PM to 4 PM. More information will follow.

Sun, December 1, at 3 PM

Advent service. The children’s choir and Åby Gospel choir sing.

Fri, December 27, at 6 PM

We sing Christmas songs. Malin Ekstrand leads a Christmas sing-along where you can request your favorite song from the pew.
